{photography.urban} Northern Downtown Buildings

I grabbed these images, while playing with my camera. They are taken from the window of our apartment (facing north). Manulife Center, CIBC, and Bay buildings at Yonge and Bloor are seen here.

  • Hi Azad,
    hello everyone :)
    cool pictures!
what's the story of the 2nd and 3rd ones?
+ which Mahsa is it!? not that i need full detail, just some clues'd do! :)
    cheerzz...

  • Sky, this is just the begining! You see, mankind can exploit a simple and not too expensive a gadget toward his selfish satisfaction. I am glad that these images reflected that I am highly enjoying my time :-D After all this is the idea behind my weblog (to reflect the inner me).

    Mahsa, thanks.

Sara "boozhee", thx for ur comment too. There is actually no story with these images. I was just playing and tried higher acquisition times (Tv) and moved the camera around such that the light found its way to seduce more CCD pixels. The greenish blue light is for the Manulife Center (this is very close to where Kaveh "Os'sed" lives and I think you have also been to the neighbourhood a while ago). BTW, I don't think that I know which Mahsa wrote the previous comment.

Finally to all guys who visit here, do not live me alone here. I REPEAT: DO NOT LEAVE ME ALONE :-D

  • He once told me that he will visit my weblog unless I talk about his forbidden list. Maybe I have crossed the line haha j/k

I think he's just busy ... Omid, people have missed you here :)

  • Hi Azad, Sky and both Saras,

"mankind can exploit a simple and not too expensive a gadget toward his selfish satisfaction".

Dead wrong! Enjoying simple yet inexpensive things is an art that only dogs are good at. Men enjoy complicated and expensive things like cameras, cars, airplanes and firearms. (a digital camera is a rather complicated thing if you think about it). Women love expensive yet simple things like shoes, candles, gold and dimonds.

    Now enjoy your camera wisely!

-Omid writing from Cherry Hill, New Jersey.

  • I'm back again!
one of these days I will come up with an idea that I'm too old for these much exams and presentations;)

BTW, very happy to see you all again ... Coucou Sara "boozhee"!

and about these images ... I think I like the last one the most (it has all colors inside), but all of them are really good!
Ok!these images implicitly reflect inner you but don't you want to explicitly share it with us;)

By Anonymous Anonymous, At 6/07/2005 9:57 AM

  • Oops,

Actually if you did not use the RAW format [which your camera doesn't have] it cannot be unprocessed.

Your camera does a fair bit of processing on all pictures you take, including sharpening, colour enhancement, contrast stretch.

By Anonymous Anonymous, At 6/07/2005 11:01 AM

  • Thanks guys for backing me up here.

Hi Omid, welcome back. I don't know why you compared cameras to cars and airplanes :-) You are right in the sense that cameras are not "simple" objects, but yet manufacturing a car or an airplane requires a much more complicated process and that's why, in my opinion, cameras are more affordable and "not too expensive". Anyways, I am enjoying it pretty much, wisely or unwisely :-D BTW, when'll you be back from NJ?

sara.a, you reminded me of the courses I would have to take next year! I am glad you survived and I hope to survive as well. BTW, I am not sure if I fully understand what you mean by "don't you want to explicitly share it with us;)" :-)

'Veh, thanks for the clarification. I meant manually unprocessed. You are absolutely right about the camera-powered processing. Even if the images are not enhanced, just saving in .jpg format would be considered processing, so your point is technically valid.

By Blogger Azad, At 6/07/2005 11:46 AM

  • Hey Azad,

    Thanks for the kind words.

First, I said those things were complicated but did not compare them.

Second, a digital camera like yourrs is in fact more complicated than any car manufactured before 1980's and any airplain manufactured before/during WWII. A chip to do JPEG compression/decompression alone probably has in excess of one million components in it. For comparison, a jet engine has some 10,000 parts in it.

I'll be back Sunday evening after finishing all these boring standardization meetings...

  • My camera is Canon A85 ..I have no idea what this number is about!
510 >>> 85 ,does it mean that your camera is far better than mine? logically it seems to be the case but this logic is not applicable for car models.
Anyway, I love my camera because it was a gift from my sister and her husband when I was leaving "yaar O diar".
BTW I've never moved my camera around, I should try it once;-)

Qui sara.rr, Bonne Chance! mais je n'y crois pas:(

Azad, I haven't survived yet!;-) I have 3 more exams 2 weeks later.

    cheers (inspired by sara.rr)

  • Comment on Omid's first comment:

human beings also enjoy nature , i have no idea about hunters!

(there is nothing more complicated than nature, i hope you admit that all these things you listed are modeled or inspired from nature)

Do you regard women as human beings?

By Anonymous Anonymous, At 6/09/2005 6:00 PM

  • This is in reply to Sara.a.

1-I just gave examples of what things are liked by general male and female poulations. My examples were not exhustive. Of course we all enjoy nature (under suitable conditions) too.

2-"there is nothing more complicated than nature". This statement is self-contrudictory. Everything (including all man made objects) are included in nature so they can not be more complicated than it. The same way that a car's engine can not be more complicated than the car itself.

3- "all these things you listed are modeled or inspired from nature." This statement is incorrect too. The concept of a wheel, for instance, which is the base for building a car never existed in nature before humans invented it. That's one reason it is considered the single most important invention ever.

3- Yes, I regard women as human beings.

It's sad when some nice and emotional comments are washed out by cold logic but that's part of nature to. Such is life ;)

By Anonymous Anonymous, At 6/10/2005 1:00 PM

  • I like this topic!

1- and I just gave an example of a complicated thing from which the first idea of all man made objects came and yet women enjoy it.

2- one of the meaning of nature is : "A primitive state of existence, untouched and uninfluenced by artificiality". And i meant this one. BTW i hadn't heard before that man made objects are a part of nature.

3- As much as I know the very primitive kinds of wheels are tree logs. humans realize that heavy objects could move easier when they are placed on tree logs.

4- can't believe ! something is wrong here ! aaaaaaaaa maybe you regard men as GOD!

I didn't get that my comment is washed out or yours? if it's mine thanks for the words "nice and emotional" that you used for it;))

  • Hi guys,

Just got back from the States. Now, here are my comments in reply to Sara.a's replies above. My Roman numerals correspomd to her Arabic numberings.

I-Please translate your sentense into clear English so I can underestand it.

II-Sara, when you state the definition of a word from a dictionary, you should not change the wording upon your own wish! You quoted the 4th meaning of the word "nature" from the online dictionary but droped the keyword "civilization" from the definition.

So, you haven't heard that man-made objects are part of nature? Then go back to the same online dictionary and re-read the frist and second meanings of the world "nature"!!! Here they are:

1-The material world and its phenomena.

2-The forces and processes that produce and control all the phenomena of the material world.

III- "humans realize that heavy objects could move easier when they are placed on tree logs."

Exactly! Humans DISCOVERED this and it was not inspired by observeing how other creatures, or wind etc. move things around. This principle was never used in the "untouched and uninfluenced by civilization" world before humans. Therefore, it did not exist in "nature" as per your definition of it.

IV-"maybe you regard men as GOD!"

No, I don't. I think men are human beings too. Yet if I were a sincere woman, I would counsider ceratin men (like Dr. Stewart Adams inventor of Ibuprofen) in a rank higher than God. For I would realize that God had forced a painful life upon me through his "natural" design before Dr. Adams' "artifial" pill brought me comfort and relief.

    ...

Now, if we could learn anything from this discussion, it is that PEOPLE IN GLASS HOUSES SHOULDN'T THROW STONES. So, to preserve the rest of a broken glass house, I declare the topic closed. Let's move on to other things.

By Anonymous Anonymous, At 6/13/2005 4:11 PM

  • Now, here are my comments in reply to Omid's replies above. My Arabic numerals correspomd to his Roman numberings(Olala).

1- I can't translate my sentense into clear English so you can underestand it! But I can translate my sentence into clear French if you can understand it.

2- when I state the definition of a word from a dictionary, I should not change the wording upon my own wish! (you're right)

I went back to the same online dictionary and re-read the frist and second meanings of the world "nature", yet I'm not sure that it means "man-made objects are part of nature" ...here "material" was used to show the contrast with "immaterial world" (refering to the same famous dictionary;) , "having no material body or form")

3- Humans DISCOVERED this and it was not inspired by observeing how other creatures, or wind etc. move things around.

we(poor persians) call this "safsate"! if there weren't any round-shape object in "nature" and humans hadn't seen the round-shape objects movemnet, the invention of wheels could have never happened! Still, i believe that the idea of all man-made objects came from nature.

4- !!!!!!????? thank your parents ... they realy did their best in training you!!!!!????? or you spoiled all their efforts!!!!????

thanks for your declaration ! you see that it's still open! someone disobeyed GOD!

By Anonymous Anonymous, At 6/15/2005 3:54 PM

  • Below are some comments which randomly came to my mind inspired by nature. They are not in reply to anything. My numbers don't correspond to anything in particular either! :)

1- Bill Clinton said during his Monica Levinsky trials that oral sex isn't sex, and that "it depends on what 'is' is".

    2- logic [noun]:

    a) exact, valid, and rational reasoning,

    b) what is sound or reasonable,

    c) what dumb idiots like me try to use sometimes

3-When discussing what type of proof Canadians wanted from the US before assisting in a war with Iraq, Prime Minister Jean Cheretien said "A proof is a proof. What kind of a proof? It's a proof. A proof is a proof. And when you have a good proof, it's because it's proven."

4- Hereby, I humbly affirm that "the idea of all man-made objects came from nature" and further that digital cameras are God and that Santa Clause has been cheating on his wife and that coffee is a color and that I am the dumbest man on earth and that I don't like crabcake.

May Brad Pitt save the Angelina Julie.

    Amen

    :)
